Kampong Phluk Fishing Village Tours
Morning Tour from Siem Reap.
Start at 8:00 AM – Depart Siem Reap
The tour begins with a 30-minute drive from Siem Reap towards the Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Along the way, you’ll catch glimpses of the rural Cambodian countryside and local villages.
9:00 AM – Arrive at the Boat Launch
Upon reaching the boat launch, you’ll board a small wooden boat specially designed to navigate the shallow, flooded forests surrounding Kampong Phluk. ( in dry season car drive directly to the village)
10:30 AM – Explore Kampong Phluk Village
Disembarking at the main part of Kampong Phluk, you’ll have the opportunity to take a walking tour through the stilt-house village. Wander through the narrow pathways, observing the daily life and activities of the local fishing community. Visit the village’s markets, schools, and Buddhist pagoda to gain a deeper understanding of the Khmer way of life.
11:45 AM – from August- January to Cruise through the Flooded Forest As you set off on the boat, you’ll find yourself immersed in the serene and otherworldly landscape of the flooded forest. Towering mangrove trees stand tall amidst the calm waters, their branches stretching out overhead. Keep an eye out for a variety some-time of bird-life and money that inhabit this unique ecosystem.
From September – January, also take chance to Visit a Nearby floating restaurant near the Village Reboarding boat, you’ll cruise to a neighboring floating farm, flooded village in monsoon where you can witness the unique floating structures, fish farm, and tiny local store that are the lifeblood of this aquatic community. Observe the skilled fishermen at work and learn about the important role that fishing plays in supporting the local economy.
12:30 PM – Return to Siem Reap
Concluding the half-day tour, you’ll arrive back in Siem Reap, having gained a deeper appreciation for the traditional way of life and resilience of the Khmer people living on the Tonle Sap Lake.
Arrival at Road 60
Your English-speaking driver will provide commentary on the local dishes, ingredients, and Cambodian food culture
6:45 PM – Venture deeper into the market to explore more unique Cambodian dishes. Try exotic fruits like rambutan, dragonfruit, or mangosteen. Sample grilled meats on skewers and traditional Khmer desserts.
